Singapore Hash House Harriets

I had never Hashed before and I knew very little about the Hash House Harriers until I ran with the Singapore Hash House Harriets.

I moved from Canada to Singapore and I was in search of a running group. The HHH are very popular in Singapore with a run available most nights, but some are men only. The Harriets run on Wednesday nights and it is a mixed run. The Hash is great for expats or travellers looking for a running group and to meet new people.

My first night with the hash was very memorable as it poured rain for the entire run. As I like running in the rain, I wasn't detered not even when we had to wade through a thigh-high water canal. We covered areas in the jungle that most people don't know exists.

I loved it. I felt like a little kid again. My shoes were full of mud and sand, I was soaking wet, but it was fun.

Fortunately, the rain stopped when the run was finished so we could wash and change into dry clothes. The drink truck was onsite in the parking lot for easy access during the circle. As I was a virgin hasher, I was called into the circle to introduce myself and chug a glass of beer while the group sang a heart-warming melody...not! It was something about being flat-chested, but of course I am not...

After that night, I became a member, got my Hash name and I have been attending Wednesday nights ever since.

I will be leaving Singapore soon, but I will be a Hasher for life. The Hash House Harriers teach you how to let down your hair and laugh at yourself...priceless!

If you are ever in Singapore, check out the Singapore Hash House Harriets. You will be glad you did.
