A Natural Weight-Loss Supplement that Actually Works?

Garcinia Cambogia

Whenever I see an advertisement with incredible weight-loss claims, I normally just ignore them. However, a few days ago, I stumbled upon a weight-loss ad that caught my eye.

It received my full attention because the ad featured a very excited Dr. Oz talking about a new, inexpensive, effective revolutionary discovery in natural weight loss with scientific research to support its effectiveness. He was excited because it is a natural fruit product that not only helps with weight loss, it provides other health benefits as well.

I wanted to know more, but first I had to confirm that Dr. Oz was in fact supporting the use of this new diet supplement. I checked his official website and it was in fact legitimate. You can watch his three short videos here: Garcinia Cambogia: The Newest, Fastest Fat-Buster.

Garcinia Cambogia is a small, pumpkin-shaped fruit that is grown mainly in Southeast Asia and India. It has long been used in traditional dishes in those parts of the world to make meals more filling. It works for weight loss because it blocks fat and it suppresses your appetite. The natural extract obtained from the fruit rind is known as hydroxycitric acid (HCA).

According to Dr. Julie Chen, who appeared with Dr. Oz, studies have shown that HCA helps suppress appetite and prevents fat from being produced in the body. It also increases serotonin, so it helps emotional eaters. In studies, participants slept better and their mood was improved. There was a reported decrease in belly fat, a decrease in overall fat and an increase in lean muscle mass. As fat creation in the body was blocked, energy levels increased. There were other health benefits as well, including a decrease in LDL cholesterol, an increase in HDL (healthy) cholesterol and a reduction in stress levels.

Dr. Oz doesn't support any particular brand of Garcinia Cambogia, but he does give us guidelines for purchasing it. He says to ensure the label reads "Garcinia Cambogia Extract", "Garcinia Cambogia" or "GCE" and it must have at least 50% HCA with potassium for easy absorption.

He recommends taking 500 to 1000 mg on an empty stomach 30 to 60 minutes before a meal and he advises against taking more than 3000 mg per day unless advised to do so by a doctor. The product should include no fillers, binders or artificial ingredients. He warns against diabetics taking it as it lowers blood-sugar levels and pregnant or breast-feeding women should not take this supplement.

If you are interested in trying this inexpensive, natural weight-loss supplement, it is currently available at Amazon. Although many of these products do meet Dr. Oz's guidelines, be sure to read the labels, which are usually included in the photos of each product:
