Affirmation of the Month:

"My body knows how to heal itself."

-- A powerful affirmation that allows our capable bodies to recover without interference from limiting beliefs. Try this affirmation the next time you feel unwell or have an ache or pain.

Are you Ready for Healthier and More Natural Race Fuel?

Race fuel works. It keeps us from bonking out (or hitting the wall) on longer runs and races. It works by replacing the glycogen stores in our liver and muscles that become depleted when we are running for long periods of time.

Sports drinks are also very helpful in replacing the electrolytes that we lose through sweat whenever we are running for more than an hour. Both types of supplements are essential for long distance runners.

Natural Race Fuel

However, if you read the ingredients on the products available, you will notice that most of the ingredients are artificial. Do you really want to keep fueling your body with these expensive and unhealthy products? (Your fit body that you have worked so hard to keep strong and healthy?)

If you are ready to switch to a healthier and less expensive option, try natural race fuel that you can make at home from the products of your choice in the quantities that suit your specific body's needs.

I have compiled a list of popular, natural race food ingredients that will provide you with the energy you need to finish your race. Check out this list of foods and recipes for natural race fuel and natural sports drinks: Natural Race Fuel

However, a word of caution: Don't try anything new on race day. Be sure your natural race fuel and natural sports drinks have been tried and tested during your training to ensure that they agree with and work for your body.

Baked Broccoli

When you bake broccoli, it brings out its sweetness and honestly using this recipe, it tastes just like candy. Lately, it is the only way I have been serving broccoli. Give it a try.

Baked Broccoli

Ingredients:

  • 1 head broccoli
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 2 tblsp olive oil
  • Sea Salt
  • Black Pepper

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Chop broccoli into pieces and place in a resealable plastic bag. Add garlic and olive oil.
  3. Add a few dashes of salt and pepper and seal the bag. Shake well to coat the broccoli.
  4. On a foil-lined baking dish, evenly spread contents of bag.
  5. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until edges begin turning brown. Serve hot.
