What is runner's high?

Have you experienced runner's high or getting in the flow? Some question whether it really exists. I believe that it does. It is an experience that happens during running in which you feel like you can run forever. Your running becomes effortless and easy. Your body moves naturally in the way it was designed to run and it just feels so good. Runners crave this experience. It is what causes us to love running so much.

For me, runner's high happens when I have been running for about 50 minutes. It usually follows a period of fatigue or threshold in which I feel tired and want to stop. It is easy to listen to the voice in my head that tells me that I am tired and I should stop. I know that if I can stay positive and push through the fatigue and rough parts, the reward will be waiting just beyond. Getting in the flow and experiencing the ultimate run is a reward worth striving for.

Experiencing runner's high is experiencing the sheer joy of running. In this state your body feels like it is flowing naturally in perfect form. While you are in this flow state, pay attention to your running posture. Notice how it feels different from how you normally move while running. This running posture is probably your most efficient running form because it feels so easy. I have noticed that my running form is different in this state. Perhaps we can take this knowledge and use it to make all our runs flow more easily and efficiently and achieve runner's high more often.

Running in Clown Shoes?

The Hokas running shoes, designed in France, are becoming a popular choice for runners in the U.S. They are often referred to as clown shoes or moon boots because of their unusual design. They have a much larger perimeter than regular running shoes and a very thick sole that has the same height from heel to toe.

Many runners love them because the extra cushioning and wide surface area provide so much protection, yet they are very light. A number of top athletes have been successful using the Hokas. Check them out here: Hoka Running Shoes
